Free Summer Coding & Fun Bootcamp for Orphans (Ikorodu, Lagos)
For many children in underserved communities and orphanages, access to digital skills is not just limited — it is almost non-existent. The Free Summer Coding & Fun Bootcamp was designed to change that reality. This initiative brought together children — including orphans — and introduced them to the world of coding, creativity, and technology through a fun, engaging, and hands-on learning experience. For many of these children, it was their first time touching a computer, writing code, or building something digital.
The Problem
Children from low-income communities and orphanages face:
- Little to no access to digital education
- Zero exposure to coding, AI, or emerging technologies
- Limited opportunities to explore creativity through tech
- Early disadvantage in a technology-driven world
Without intervention, they risk being left behind permanently.
The Solution
The bootcamp introduced a fun-first, beginner-friendly tech learning model that:
- Made technology accessible and enjoyable
- Focused on hands-on learning and creativity
- Introduced children to multiple tech pathways early
- Created a safe and inspiring environment for exploration
What Was Done
- Organized a 4-week physical bootcamp (August 4 – August 29)
- Targeted children in:
- Underserved communities
- Orphanages (including Holy Name Missionary Home, Ikorodu)
- Delivered training in:
- Web Design (HTML, CSS basics)
- Graphics Design (Canva)
- Game Development (Scratch Jr.)
- App Development (MIT App Inventor)
- Robotics (4WD Robot Cars & Quarky Bot)
- Included:

Real Impact (Human Storytelling)
This project is about possibility.
For a child who had never used a computer:
- Writing their first line of code becomes a moment of transformation
- Seeing their project come alive builds confidence and belief
For orphaned children:
👉 It creates a sense of inclusion, belonging, and future hope
Innovation
- Combination of:
- Coding
- Robotics
- Game development
- App creation
- Designed as a fun + education hybrid experience
- Early exposure model for children (not just youths)
Challenges & Learning
- Funding limitations restricted number of beneficiaries
- Infrastructure and logistics challenges (including weather disruptions)
- High demand vs limited slots
Key Insight:
Early exposure to technology can completely change a child’s confidence, curiosity, and life direction.
Sustainability & Scale
- “Sponsor a Child” model for future cohorts
- Expansion to more orphanages and underserved communities
- Integration into:
- Creative Digita Foundation (CDF) programs
- Long-term goal:
👉 Build a national early-tech exposure program for children
